Wat Lamai Folk Museum is a 2-storey wooden building exhibits the collection of daily use antiques of the villagers on the island and other places in the south, such as various lanterns, cages, the traditional drum aged over 300 years. The drum, a fine art in the Metal Age of the North Vietnamese Culture of Dong Son, was discovered in 2000 and used in rituals, exorcism, rain-making rites, etc.
Wat Lamai Folk Museum, Koh Samui, Surat Thani, was founded with the support of the Office of the National Culture Commission (ONCC) in 1986 as a place to collect traditional items with the history of Koh Samui in the old days. The old wooden building behind the temple is used as the current museum.
Inside the cultural hall, there are various kinds of exhibits, such as ancient lamps, drums, lampposts, coated vases, bowls, glazed water jars with dragon patterns, brasses, swords, porcelain, birdcages, potteries, mills, and basketworks. In addition, since people of Samui are engaged with coconut plantations, coconut plantation tools including hoes, spades, big knives, and also hats and colanders made from coconut are also exhibited.
