Khlong Rahaeng Old Market, located on the connection of Rahaeng canal and Phra Udom canal, has become famous for more than 100 years. At the market, plenty of old-style houses can be seen along both sides of the canal. In the old days, boat and train were major types of transportation.
The first railway line was opened between Rahaeng Market and Bang Bua Thong in Nonthaburi province. However, as the development of transportation existed, people had changed to travel by cars and other wheeled vehicles, causing the rail transport to shut down its operations.
Additionally, Rahaeng Market has been encouraged to maintain its uniqueness of ancient floating market to make tourism in Pathum Thani province more enjoyable and worthwhile.
Marked as a tourist attraction of Pathum Thani province, this old market has reserved its tradition so well that it has received an award from H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for its heritage and cultural value. This market have many interesting venue to visit such as ‘Pae Pochana’ restaurant with its 70 years of experience as a guarantee of its quality dishes, 90-years old aquarium shop and a museum containing vintage tools and objects which is definitely worth a visit.
