It is in the area of Khao Sawai National Forest Park in Na Bua Sub-district, Surin Province. “Phanon Sawai” is the local dialect of Surin; “Phanom” means “a mountain” and “Sawai” means “a mango”. It consists of the connecting three mountains which are named differently: “Phanom Kron”, meaning “Khao Khok”, is 150-meter high, “Phanom Prao”, meaning “Khao Chai”, is 220-meter high, and “Phanom Srai”, meaning “Khao Ying”, is 210-meter high.

To get to Phanom Sawai from Muang District, Surin Province, drive along Surin-Prasat Road for 14 kilometers. At Bann Ka Nob, turn to Bann Kanob-Bann Sawai Road, the 6-kilometer long laterite road. Total distance from the city to Phanom Sawai Forest Park is about 20 kilometers. The road leading to Khao Sawai is the two-lane and 5-meter wide concrete road.
