Loei, in Isan, is one of the most sparsely populated provinces of Thailand. Neighboring provinces are Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Nongbua Lamphu, Khon Kaen, Phetchabun, Phitsanulok.
In the north it borders Xaignabouli and Vientiane Province of Laos.
