Kong Khong Market is used to call the market in the old day where the merchants were sitting on the ground and the buyers have to bend down to select the goods. In the old day, this place was Khanon Checkpoint or the tax checkpoint during Ayutthaya period, and the exchange center of products from other cities as well.

Tourist can experience the atmosphere of Ayutthaya period, learn the old style way of life, purchase organic vegetables and fruits, food and desserts from the sellers who are wearing antique costume. Every morning before opening the market, they perform the traditional dance to offer to Phor Pu Som, the sacred object of this market.

It is one of the interesting ancient markets call “Baan Sang Som”. It is a group of Thai-style house constructing in Thai architecture pattern exhibiting the sense of Ayutthaya period. The old way of life is revitalized to preserve Thai culture. This area was Khanon Checkpoint (to collect tax) where products and goods from many cities were exchanged. “Kong Khong Market” is used to call the market in the old day where the merchants were sitting on the ground and the buyers have to bend down to select the goods. The bending posture of Thai people is polite and elegant expressing the humbleness. At the market, organic vegetables and fresh fruits from the garden, Thai food and dessert are sold by the merchants who are wearing traditional costume.
