Khuk Khak means ‘crowded’ in Thai. This seems ironic as the 4 km beach of Khuk Khak is not crowded at all. It is located 4 km north of Bang Niang in a very rural and peaceful part of the Khao Lak area. The beach is fine white sand and great for swimming. It is widely considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. The beach is divided into three by the estuaries of the Khuk Khak river and another river. There is also a lagoon next to part of the beach. This can be easily crossed at low tide. Khuk Khak is often mentioned in guide books and online as being part of Nang Thong Bay.
There is plenty to do in the area. There is elephant trekking on offer and an 18 hole golf course at Tablamu. Also at Tablamu is the pier for boats going to the Similan Islands. It is also here that you will find the entrance to Lamru National Park.
Khuk Khak has the biggest choice of accommodation in Khao Lak. There are a few budget places to stay in Khuk Khak such as Tony Lodge. The majority of resorts are in the mid-range category. For those looking for luxury there is the JW Marriot Khaolak.
Near the beach is the small village of Baan Khuk Khak. It is the administrative center of the area and has a post office, police station, a market and a Buddhist temple. Baan Khuk Khak is a sleepy village and provides the visitor with an insight into traditional local life. There is also a bigger town called Nang Thong (sometimes also known as Khao Lak center) which is about 2 km away where most things can be bought.
