Khao Laem Ya Mu Koh Samet National Park was declared the 3rd national marine park of Thailand. The Park covers the areas on land and in the sea; such as, Hat Mae Ramphueng, Khao Laem Ya, Muko Samet (Samet Islands) which includes Ko Samet, Ko Chan, Ko Kudi, Ko Makham, Ko Kruai, Ko Plai Tin, Ko Thalu and Ko Thai Khangkhao. The remarkable place is Ko Samet aka Ko Kaeo Phitsadan. The Park has three nature trails on Ko Samet, Ko Kudi, and Khao Laem Ya. Each trail has various species of trees; such as, Ton Manao Pa, Ton Khai Tao, Ton Khan Thong Phayabat, Ton Samet Daeng, etc., and wild animals including masked palm civet, Javan mongoose, long-tailed macaque, variable squirrel, barn swallow, owl, etcvariety of plants.
It is believed that this Island is koh Kaew Pissadran in Thai literature “Pra Apai Manee” by Sunthorn Phu. It is a famous tourist attraction of Rayong that is popular among both Thai and foreigners. It is located in Tambon Phe, Amphoe Muang, about 6.5 kilometres from the coast of Baan Phe.
