The villagers have been living in the area of the watershed forest since 1958. Their lives have always relied on the forest and its water ways. When the community began to expand, the idea of preserving and conserving the forest as a watershed forest for their community occurred so that there will be a source of water in the dry season.
The Ban Nam Rat Watershed Forest is a selection of springs coming from foothills and is assumed to be a channel of water flowing from the jungle of the community which is about 2,000 rai. Due to its clear water and white sandy ground, a lot of people are interested in coming here to swim, and they keep on telling other people to come and experience it for themselves. Therefore, the place has become popular among tourists. This led to the fact that the Heads of the community decided to develop the area to be a swimming area within the nature.
However, they have sectioned some areas where the water flows so that the water in those areas can be used for special ceremonies since they believe that the water has been purified by being naturally filtered. Besides, this stream of water also runs for about 2 kms as a small canal, and therefore provides tranquility and beauty hidden in the nature. Besides being the source of water for animals living in the forest, it also provides tourists with the opportunity to enjoy rowing or witnessing the nature.
Mr. Suchin Nakbamrung, Ban Thamniap Sub District Headman, believes that the community’s potential and readiness can attract tourists into the area which will financially benefit the villagers. Hence, Mr. Nakbamrung and the community’s committee built a small building to be used as a tourist information center and a place to manage the tourism system of Ban Nam Rat Watershed Forest.
